Terms of Service
Last updated: September 1, 2026
These terms govern your use of SOS (the "app," "we," "our"). By creating an account or using SOS, you agree to these terms. See also our Privacy Policy, which explains what data we collect and how it's used.
What SOS is — and isn't
SOS is a personal safety check-in tool. You start a check-in, choose trusted contacts, and set a deadline; if you don't check in, or if you tap "Send SOS Now," we notify your chosen contacts by SMS and/or email.
Accounts
You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for the accuracy of the contact information (names, phone numbers, emails) you enter. You must be at least 13 years old to use SOS.
SMS & email messaging terms
By adding a trusted contact's phone number, you're telling us to send that person:
- A one-time text when they're first added, letting them know they've been added as a trusted contact.
- Automated safety-alert texts if you miss a scheduled check-in or trigger an emergency SOS.
Message frequency varies based on your check-in activity. Message and data rates may apply. Recipients can opt out of future texts at any time by replying STOP to any message, or get help by replying HELP. Opting out of texts does not delete their information — see the Privacy Policy for how to request deletion.
By entering someone's phone number as a trusted contact, you confirm you have their permission to share it with us for this purpose and to receive these messages.
Subscriptions
Plus and Guardian plans are paid monthly subscriptions billed through Stripe. You can cancel anytime from the app's Account tab (billing portal) or on the web; cancelling stops future charges but doesn't refund the current billing period. "Send SOS Now" is free and unlimited on every plan, including Free.
Acceptable use
Don't use SOS to harass, stalk, or monitor someone without their knowledge or consent, to submit false emergency alerts, or in any way that violates applicable law.
Disclaimer & limitation of liability
SOS is provided "as is." We don't guarantee the app, alerts, or third-party services (SMS/email delivery, location accuracy) will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we're not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, SOS — including a missed or delayed alert.
Changes to these terms
If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of SOS after changes means you accept the updated terms.
